The Zollhaus sculpture park
National and international artists create a year-round open-air exhibition at the Zollhaus – and you can look over their shoulders as the works take shape.
From fleeting ice to a permanent exhibition
The popular but fleeting ice sculptures of winter are complemented on the hotel grounds by year-round sculptures made from natural materials. Step by step, an extraordinary permanent open-air exhibition is emerging, with works by national and international artists.
This makes the Zollhaus a year-round creative workshop: guests, visitors and art lovers not only admire the finished works but can watch the artists as they create them – just like the ice sculptures in winter. Hands-on art projects, in other words.
Winter or summer – there's always art
Snow and ice on the left, sand and sun on the right: move the slider and see how the park changes through the year. Once a year the Zollhaus hosts an ice sculpture competition – drawing great interest from visitors and the press.
In winter, numerous cross-country ski trails around the hotel also beckon – more under Winter holiday in the Ore Mountains.

"I'd like the room with Mr Funck, please." – What unusual words our guests use when booking! At the Zollhaus you'll find art everywhere: paintings by international artists in the hallways and in all rooms.

Art, wellness and sport in one place
The Zollhaus stands for a unique combination of art with wellness, sport and ever-new ideas.
How big, and in what material?
Weatherproof natural materials – wood, stone or metal, with or without colour. The sculptures should be at least 1 metre high and 1 metre wide . Single objects or groups are possible, also as a collaboration between several artists.
Park area: approx. 5,000–8,000 m²
Four steps to your own work in the park
Describe your idea in as much detail as possible – what you're planning, when you can start and how long it will take.
A selection is made from the applicants.
You'll be invited to present your work in more detail.
If the idea convinces us, the realisation period is agreed – and off you go.
While you create your work, you stay at Hotel Zollhaus with free board and lodging. We cover the cost of the materials.
There's a vernissage with a press release for the unveiling, your work appears on our website with your name and photo – and thousands of visitors will see it.
After completion: a one-week holiday for 2 with half board at Hotel Kalura in Cefalù – plus participation in the public vote for "Most Popular Sculpture of the Year".
Everything about taking part
The initiator is Hotel Zollhaus Betriebs-GmbH in Neuhermsdorf/Ore Mountains – managing director Gerrit Curcio, art director Isabel Einsiedl.
Who can take part?
National and international artists whose exceptionally interesting object idea was selected by the initiator via the application.
Which material is possible?
Weatherproof natural materials – wood, stone, metal – with or without colour.
What size is required?
The park covers approx. 5,000–8,000 m². The sculptures should be at least one metre high and one metre wide. Single objects or groups are possible.
What happens to the property after completion?
The works remain the property of Hotel Zollhaus Betriebs-GmbH as part of a permanent exhibition on the hotel grounds. In this way the hotel's art offering, the artists' recognition and the region's international appeal grow step by step. By applying, the artist agrees to this arrangement.
What does the artist get out of it?
Free board and lodging while you create your work, materials paid for, a vernissage with press release, your name and photo on the website and a permanent exhibition. Plus a one-week holiday for 2 with half board at Hotel Kalura in Cefalù, Sicily.
In addition, every work automatically takes part in the public vote for "Most Popular Sculpture of the Year" – main prize: a one-week holiday for 2 with half board at Chez Le Pacha Hotel in Mhamid, Morocco (see call for entries for conditions).
Which rights of use apply?
After completion, the artist leaves their work to Hotel Zollhaus Betriebs-GmbH for permanent display on the hotel grounds. They agree to photos being taken of the work and to their name being mentioned and published for advertising purposes, online and in press releases.
