Winter magic in the Ore Mountains

A winter sports area for beginners and advanced skiers

South of Dresden, the Eastern Ore Mountains rise to 600–900 m towards the Czech border. Snow is fairly reliable here – making the region an excellent winter sports area for beginners and experienced skiers alike.

Around Landhotel Altes Zollhaus you will find ski lifts, toboggan slopes, a modern ice stadium in Geising, natural ice rinks and groomed trails with equipment hire. And close by is one of the most modern luge and bobsleigh tracks in the world.

From the Zollhaus you are on the old railway embankment trail within a few metres – right in the cross-country paradise of the Eastern Ore Mountains.

The network covers around 52 km and connects to the ski areas of Hermsdorf, Frauenstein, Nassau, Sayda and Dlouhá Louka. The trail leads to the German-Czech border, which you can cross without any problem. Find all trails and ski areas on our cross-country page with map.

At 1,413 metres with 18 steep bends, the Altenberg luge and bobsleigh track is one of the most demanding artificial ice tracks for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton.

Fancy an adrenaline rush? On a guest bob ride you race down the ice channel in an original four-man bob – or try the somewhat gentler ice tubing. Current dates and prices are available directly from the track.

Is there a cross-country ski trail right at the hotel?

Can I borrow snowshoes at the hotel?

Yes, snowshoes are available at reception. Please let us know in advance so we can have them ready for you.

Is the Eastern Ore Mountains area good for beginners and children?

Very much so. The many small ski areas with gentle slopes are ideal for beginners, children and day trips. There are also toboggan slopes, natural ice rinks and the ice stadium in Geising.
