Nutcrackers, smoking men and Christmas pyramids: the famous wood craft of the Ore Mountains has been made here for generations. With a map of all museums, show workshops, wood-craft shops and cafés, directions from the Zollhaus and all dates of the 2026 Christmas market.
Seiffen, officially Kurort Seiffen, lies in the eastern Ore Mountains right on the Czech border and is known as Germany’s toy village. People here once lived from tin mining. When the ore ran out, wood became the new livelihood: miners and turners became toy makers.
To this day, many family workshops in Seiffen make nutcrackers, smoking men, Christmas pyramids, candle arches and angels. Truly unique is ring turning (Reifendrehen): a wooden ring is turned so that, once sliced, it yields dozens of small animal figures. This technique exists almost nowhere else.
The village landmark is the octagonal mountain church (Bergkirche) from 1779. As a wooden miniature it stands in living rooms all over the world.

On three floors the museum shows around 5,000 pieces from Seiffen workshops, from historic parlours to huge Christmas landscapes. Many hands-on stations make it great for children too.
