Why is alkaline fasting actually called Basesfast? After all, sour-tasting, acidic foods such as lemons and limes, oranges and mandarins, kiwis, grapefruit and pineapple are also permitted and are part of an "alkaline" diet.
Alkaline fasting is therefore not about the acidity of the food in its raw form, but about whether a food is a so-called acid producer in the body. This is because we form acids when we obtain energy from food, especially when we break down proteins. To keep the acid-base balance in equilibrium, acids are partly broken down in the liver, expelled via the kidneys and exhaled through the lungs as carbon dioxide after being converted.
This is because an over-acidified body can lead to numerous complaints, such as heartburn, headaches, skin problems or joint pain. Alkaline fasting can be a gentle method of regenerating the body, bringing it into balance and supporting the body's own healing powers. Alkaline fasting can therefore also be recommended for people who have health problems or need to recover from an illness.
Liver compresses to support detoxification
In order to further strengthen the detoxification organs such as the liver, the Wacker alkaline fasting programme at the Landhotel Altes Zollhaus also consists of additional detoxification measures, including the liver wrap. As the liver is our largest detoxification organ and healthy liver function is one of the most important prerequisites for successful detoxification, we pay particular attention to it. During alkaline fasting, the liver can even be put under particular strain as it has to filter more harmful substances and acids from the body.
Liver compresses are a tried and tested method of relieving the liver in a natural way. The compress is simply applied to the liver region and helps to improve blood circulation and stimulate the metabolism. The warmth and moisture of the compress stimulates the liver cells and promotes the elimination of harmful substances.
To make a liver compress, all you need is a cotton cloth or towel soaked in warm water and wrung out. The damp cloth is then placed on the liver region and wrapped with a woollen cloth or blanket. Ideally, the liver compress should be applied in the evening before going to bed for around 30 minutes or even overnight. This allows the liver to regenerate and detoxify optimally during the resting phase. Regular use of the liver compress can help to maintain healthy liver function and support the detoxification process during alkaline fasting.
Alkaline baths help with acid excretion
Alkaline baths also support the detoxification process. At the Landhotel Altes Zollhaus, we offer alkaline foot baths for alkaline fasting guests in our wellness area. The skin is the largest detoxification organ in our body and plays an important role in the elimination of acids. An alkaline foot bath can support this function of the skin. If the water in the alkaline footbath has a higher pH value than the skin, an alkaline balance is achieved via the skin. Through the natural process of osmosis, the water is drawn into the body and the acids can be excreted through the skin.
The alkaline foot bath can also be used to help with inflammation and pain. To carry out such a bath, we fill a basin with lukewarm water and add the alkaline salt. Soak your feet in the water for at least 30 minutes and feel the relaxing and detoxifying effect. At Zollhaus, you can treat yourself to such a foot bath regularly to help your body detoxify and do something good for your well-being.
