Winter holiday in the Ore Mountains
Ein Wintersportgebiet für Anfänger & Fortgeschrittene
Located south of Dresden, the Osterzgebirge mountains rise to altitudes of 600 to 900 metres up to the Czech border. The Osterzgebirge is an excellent winter sports region, which is equally suitable for beginners and advanced skiers.
Numerous ski lifts, toboggan slopes, a modern ice rink in Geising, natural ice rinks and groomed cross-country ski trails with the corresponding hire facilities and one of the most modern sledge and bobsleigh runs in the world await you in the surrounding area. Not only in summer, but also in winter you can experience a lot of sport and fun around our Hotel Altes Zollhaus. There are many winter sports opportunities here, as the region is quite snow-sure. There is also direct access to the well-developed and groomed cross-country ski trail network from the hotel. Many of the trails can also be hiked on snowshoes in winter. This is a wonderful way to combine holidays and relaxation with winter sports.
And after sport, you can head to our wellness centre - a sauna area with 4 different saunas and a massage room.

Ice channel
This is where the pros train!
With a length of 1,413 metres and 18 steep bends, the Altenberg luge and bobsleigh track is one of the most challenging artificial tracks for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton. The track in Kohlgrund near Oberbärenburg is used by the skaters from Saxony, such as the
World champion in women's bobsleigh Cathleen Martini or junior bobsleigh world champion Francesco Friedrich. But countless other well-known top athletes also get into top form here.
Further information
The bobsleigh run is one of only 17 facilities worldwide to host many national and international competitions every year, such as the German Championships, World Cups and European and World Championships. The Altenberg luge and bobsleigh track is iced from October to February. Training and competition runs take place almost daily. From May to August, the lugers train with rollers under the sled instead of on runners. Spectators are welcome all year round

Snowshoe hiking in the Ore Mountains
I had a wonderful experience at the customs house! We arrived in the evening when it was dark and the house was covered in snow, we could just about park our car in the full car park as it was covered in snow. We arrived at the hotel and were given a very nice welcome and of course I immediately had the idea of going for a walk, but that's not possible or difficult on foot in the deep snow. So I saw the snowshoes right next to reception and we immediately decided to go on a snowshoe hike the next morning. The caretaker, Mario Schuhmann, was so friendly and organised everything for us. The tour went on for hours and was of course an absolute highlight of our holiday. I can only recommend it to everyone, best regards Maria from Oldenburg.
Snowboard park
The Ore Mountains offer something very special for action enthusiasts and snowboard fans. Namely the snowboard fun park.
The slope is moderately steep, relatively wide and is one of the longest runs in the Ore Mountains. On the right-hand side of the lift, halfway up, there is a snowboard fun park with various obstacles. Here you can really let off steam and enjoy winter sports to the full. The fun park area can be illuminated and can therefore also be used in the evening, but then only without the lift. According to reviews, it is the best-equipped snowboard park in the Ore Mountains. So what are you waiting for?

The longest ski lift in the Ore Mountains
This is located in Hermsdorf. If there is enough snow, the lift is open on Friday afternoons and at weekends from 9 am to 4 pm. You can contact the tourist office for further information on 035057 / 51210.
The best way to reach the snowboard park is by car. It is only about 3 km from the Zollhaus. Unfortunately there is no snowboard hire on site, so we recommend hiring equipment in Holzhau or Altenberg.
On the website: Massive-Snowpark.de you will find more detailed information about the fun park.
Have fun in the snowboard park in the Ore Mountains!
Of course you can also snowboard on the normal pistes. You can find a list of the ski slopes here.
If you prefer classic cross-country skiing, you can find the cross-country ski trails here.
I've ridden it myself and it's ideal for beginners, you can also try it out with a few pieces of equipment. This lift is almost never overcrowded, so you don't have to queue. A real insider tip.
There are also plenty of parking spaces available.
Winter 2021 would probably have been one of the best in the last 20 years. Unfortunately, Corona has thrown a spanner in the works. But we remain optimistic, let's wait for 2022... it will definitely work out again. But will the snow be as plentiful as this year? Let's let ourselves be surprised:-)

Cross-country skiing
What makes cross-country skiing so interesting here? Quite simply, from the customs house you can drive directly onto the cross-country ski trail of the old railway embankment, just a few metres to the start and you are in the cross-country skiing Eldorado of the Eastern Ore Mountains. The cross-country skiing network covers approx. 52 km with direct links to the ski areas of Hermsdorf, Frauenstein, Nassau, Sayda and Dlouha Louka. The route also leads to the German-Czech border, which you can easily cross and ski for kilometres to the Czech Republic. This route is also ideal for our skaiting friends!
Further information
You are also welcome to park your car at the Zollhaus and start your cross-country skiing day. You also have the option of having a small packed lunch prepared by us. If you are interested, please let us know at reception the evening before your tour. This way we can easily prepare everything for you so that you can enjoy your excursion well-fuelled and fortified.
Unique with us:
Thanks to the excellent connection to the various cross-country skiing areas, you can start directly at the Zollhaus. The first access point is just 50 metres from here

Ski resorts
The Eastern Ore Mountains in Saxony are home to a large number of small ski resorts. As the mountains slope down to the north without any great differences in altitude, the ski areas are particularly suitable for beginners and day tourists. Due to the topographical conditions, this area is unfortunately rather unattractive for alpine winter sports.
Further information
As the Eastern Ore Mountains are a popular recreational area for Dresden, the pistes are expected to be very busy in good winter weather. The well-known ski lifts near Altenberg, Geising and Rehefeld are particularly affected. Another important resort for alpine skiing is Holzhau (part of the municipality of Rechenberg-Bienenmühle), which lies a little further to the west. Just like Sayda, Holzhau also belongs to the district of Mittelsachsen in the Freiberg region. In contrast, the other three areas can be categorised as part of the classic Eastern Ore Mountains. The so-called "silver Erzgebirge" combines the Erzgebirge tourism activities of both districts.
The region has several T-bar lifts at its disposal. However, the Rehefeld chairlift has the largest capacity.

Ski resorts in the Czech Republic
The Bouřňňák sports centre is the largest ski resort in the Ore Mountains outside of the Fichtelberg-Keilberg region and is therefore also popular with German skiers. There are several pistes available around the striking Bouřňňák mountain - in German "Stürmer" - with a total length of over 6 kilometres. From the summit, 4 ski slopes lead in the direction of Mikulov (Niklasberg) and one ski slope in the direction of Hrob (Klostergrab).
